My name is Gennadiy and, like you, I love sky. I'm flight instructor in retirement who moved from real-life cockpit to virtual one.
It's my hobby now. The simulator gave me a chance to be in control of an aircraft again, but the coloring of the virtual sky
and surroundings were far from being realistic, so I decided to create my own textures.
Now there are enough of them to share with you.
Download free sky textures, install, test and enjoy.
Have good time flying!
Developers implemented an ingenious system - they split entire day into 14 periods - textures. Each texture is a 32x32 square defining not only sky color, but also a lighting for ground, cloud, fog, haze, water, precipitation, aircraft and reflections!
To make sure days don't look the same, simulator can use up to 10 different texture sets, yet it is unused by many developers.
Despite technical limitations set by engine, texturing system enables devs to "paint" the scenery to fit everyone's taste.
Try to evaluate quality of the sky textures you are using. Set weather to "foggy", time - to morning or evening, get
above clouds and take a look around. If clouds and fog have different colors, and zenith and "unlit" part of the sky
are too dark and clouds are too bright, you need to change textures. Most of my sets are free of those flaws.
- set for a 10-day texture shifting cycle to make each day different
Textures are completely compatible with both P3D and FSX, all versions of PTA, weather modilling software (Opus, AS2016 with ASCA, etc)
Textures can be used in combination with ons from other authors (REX, FEX)
